Srinagar, Aug 27 (KNO): Amid flood alert, the government Wednesday decided to close all schools, colleges and universities of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) in an order said, “In view of the inclement weather conditions and for the safety of students it is ordered that all government as well as private recognized schools in the Kashmir Division shall remain closed on August-28.”
In the meantime, Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) said that in view of the incessant rains, landslides in hilly areas, weather alerts across the division, and in order to ensure the safety of students and staff, all government and private schools in the Jammu division shall continue to remain closed on 28th August 2025.
Meaning, Director Colleges, J&K said, “Due to the bad weather conditions and continuous downpour leading to flood like situation across the Jammu and Kashmir, it is ordered that all Government Degree Colleges and GCETs in the UT of J&K shall remain closed on August-28.
The University of Kashmir (KU) has also postponed all examinations that were scheduled to be held on August-27.
The varsity said it will notify fresh dates for the postponed examinations.
Earlier, Health and Education Minister, Sakeena Itoo told the KNO that the schools and colleges across Jammu and Kashmir shall remain closed on Thursday.
The decision, according to the Minister, has been taken due to the inclement weather conditions.
Pertinently, the heavy rainfall has triggered flood-like situation across Jammu and Kashmir with the water level in rivers Jhelum and other streams flowing above the flood declaration mark in Kashmir and above danger mark in Jammu division—(KNO)
